Who do these guidelines apply to?

These guidelines apply to those organisations that submitted a joint application to MBIE to operate a combined pool of PreSeed funding under KiwiNet.  This includes: AUT Enterprises, Callaghan Innovation, Cawthron Institute, ESR, Landcare Research, Lincoln University, NIWA, Plant and Food, University of Canterbury, VicLink, WaikatoLink, GNS Science and Malaghan Institute.

Anybody seeking PreSeed investment through this process must be working with the commercialisation office from one of the research organisation listed above. If you have a project you wish to seek PreSeed funding for, please advise your commercialisation office as early as possible for guidance and advice.

What is the process for accessing funding?

The KiwiNet Investment Committee (IC) oversees allocation of all PreSeed investment under KiwiNet’s management. The committee has established two pools of investment that are available to eligible organisations. Select from one of the two categories to find out more information.

Investment Types

Tier One
up to
Will reimburse up to 50% of a project's eligible costs to a maximum $25k.
Tier Two
Will reimburse up to 50% of the projects eligible costs over $25k.
